Babaji’s Ashram

GowriShankar Peeta is Babaji’s Ashram near Badrinath in the Himalayas. The Ashram is near the temple town of Badrinath and surrounded by tall or high rock cliffs on all sides, with a row of caves by their side. The largest cave belongs to Babaji. There are two waterfalls opposite this cave in a corner. There is some small group of residents in the Ashram. They use the largest waterfall for bathing and the smaller one for drinking. Though there is no visible light source, even in night, the whole area is well lit. No one can approach on the Ashram closer than a mile without Babaji’s permission or concurrence[1].

Historical reference

The Babaji’s did not leave any historical reference as the Great Guru and Mahavatar never openly appeared in any century; the misinterpreting glare of publicity absolutely has no place in his millennial plans. Like the omnipotent almighty, Babaji’s also works in a humble obscurity. Babaji has said solemnly that he shall never leave his physical body. It will always remain visible to at least a small number of people on this earth. Babaji has been chosen by God to remain in his body for the duration of this particular world cycle. Ages will come and go – still the death lacks the Mahavatar, beholding the drama of centuries, shall be present on this stage terrestrial.

An insight in to History

At the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century when India was in the threshold of attaining her freedom, the world was swept by the materialistic growth through breakthroughs in transportation, communication and many scientific inventions. People’s vision was masked and directed towards achieving only material comforts and in the process the tradition got a slight jolt. The great seers, sages and saints who were till then in direct contact with the people for guidance and advice slowly retreated into their abodes only to be available to a very few of those who did not become a prey to the ever changing way of new lifestyles. India lost many of its treasures and wealth between the twelfth and the nineteenth century; still it was very rich in its spiritual heritage and remained the beacon of light for the entire world. Great interest has bee evinced by the Westerners in Eastern metaphysics and philosophy ever since the foreigners entered India for trade in the beginning and then gradually for ruling the country.
Our journey to Mahavatar Babaji Cave at Dunagiri in Uttara Khand State added another experience to all the participants. The female Deity Durga Devi as Jhula Devi at Choubattia in Ranikhet Kamoan regiment area at 6500 ft above the Mean Sea Level is so powerful and with divine attraction gracing the devotees. Reaching Kukuchina was not an easy task in itself. With dangerous U turns, with several narrow kacha roads brings us to remind the Divinity is so close to us in guiding and protecting each member of the tour. More to know about the spiritual experiences
